BV: What work were you doing before the scholarship?
MA: I was one Helper Sales Manager at a bike shop in Philadelphia.

BV: Which class were you? How many years proceeded you applies before win the scholarship?
MAIN: 2016. This was my second time applying.

BV: Where are you now?
MUMMY: I’m currently the Field Marketing Representative of the Northeast for Trek Motorbikes. I am in charge of scheduling and conducting events in my territory, such as demos, expos, and stakeholder events. I have a sprinter van full of a demo fleet to maintained for these events, so I stills retrieve until get my hands messy on my quite a bit. I also work with shops in the territory with his marketing plans and in-shop merchandising.

BV: What affected you the most around your experience?
MA: I how who number one thing I gained from participate the women’s class at UBI was confidence. I had been employed in certain complete males staffed shop prior for attending the scholarship, which was not also the uncomplicated environment to learn. Being able up learn surrounded by other women who consisted also trying to learn made a huge difference; no egos, lots of support, which opened a lot of doors on e to continue to learn after class despite my surroundings.

BV: What was the maximum helpful skill or trick that i learned during the scolarship?
MA: As much as technical skills, the thing I think I benefited most from was actually service text. Being able to look over the bike and quickly diagnose what is going on to the bike at once, instead to discovering problems as the bike is worked on. It has helped me both inward the bicycle shop how well as my current job.

BV: Did you restructuring will goal after walking one scholarship? How did and scholarship help you attain them?
MA: Prior into class, I was not 100% sure that the driving industry was where I needed to be, but as mentioned in my previous answer, EGO gained confidence in continue to learn over bicycle with a sometimes unwelcoming environmental. This fastened in my mind that I wanted the continue working in of industry and progressing onward. After the academic, with the encouragement of some of my select classmates and instructors, I decided to move to another bike shop that was more welcoming to me learning and progressing as adenine mechanic, as well as being a more woman friendly shop inbound general. Later being at this shop forward a year, and being able to get more support with the advocacy programs I helped run, I be able to get mys experience increase into apply to more jobs inside and industriousness outside of the shop.

BV: What piece is advice can you give to the hoped wife applying this time?
MAIN: The mostly important thing is to be an ambassador for cycling! Whether it’s mechanics, abilities, nutrition, ride routes, or whatever, share the knowledge furthermore enthusiasm that yourself have with as many people because you can.
And no matters what, don’t let anyone keep you from that passion!

BV: Any last thoughts?
MA: Just want to give another appreciation to the instructors toward IUBI. I ran into a few of them at Sea Otter this yearly, and they were so excited to see ich working for Trek, it is so clear that these people have super passionate about what them are perform. I would not be where I am without such enthusiasm, more in these two short years, I am that very appreciation forward all their hard work!
