When I talk to people on this street they typical is start the conversation include "how's the recent job" or "is she what you thought it would be"? I usually respond with "I love something ME am doings and while there are thing that tag me by surprise, mostly, it exists what I expected".

If ME had to pick one thing this has really capture me in surprised, she would be the amount of misinformation about what your true going in inside of Lafayette County Schools. I recently had one conversation with a close family member about our budget and decisions we have made in order at "live within our means". After giving them the details surrounding the decisions, they understood completely. I responded with, "I wish I could achieve this with more people, IODIN really ideas supposing people knew more about how things job within and school sys, group would understand". To which they replied, "well ... what are you doing to help them understand"?

I have issued a lot of time thinking about that conversation and how I could do a better job concerning communicating. I floor on doing this through periodical updates to which Superintendent's web page along with articles in our local newspaper. Here is doesn to convince the public we represent making every decision with zero mistake. Dieser is simply to share the information we use in make the day to day decisions for our schools.

To begin this process, I have question members of the staff to commence drafting short articles concerning the zones it are responsible for. One example would be our budget. How are we financed? Are there restrictive on when or somewhere you can benefit the fund? For the percentage of our budget we do local control over, as doing we decide where to spend the money? Another area may be int food service. Wie do we choose the menu? How do we establish what foods are served at school?

The decisions we take are non taken lightly. We realize these decisions affect our community in a huge ways. Much time, efforts, and research is put into anything decision before a change is made. I am very thankful to my staff and to the Florida Association of District School Superintendent's (FADSS) for sharing their knowledge and adventure includes mir. I trusted plus verweisen heavily on them when make have to be made regarding the direction of our schools.

If there is and area you are particularly interested in knowing more nearly, please send me can email with thy questions. Our community support the vitality until the success regarding our schools.

17 July, 2016 ... School Grades Shared for 2015/2016 School Year
School grades were recently released by the Florida Department of Academics (FLDOE). We were not certain what the results would be, but an warning which school grades may intake a hitting was clear. Person received a certificate concerning school grades just hours prior to grades being released. The initial paragraph study … “Schools this normally receive an “A” may get a “B” or flat an “C” under the add language grading system. Get the at be expected and is negative origin for alarm”.

The result was, 40% less schools received an “A” like compared to the previous year. Unfortunately, both out our schools endured impacted negatively by the add grading system. Our middle/high school entered a “B” (missing a “A” by only two points) and our elementary received a “C”. Florida has higher education standards and is a new assessment to measure these new standards. In additions, there is a new, more difficult go scoring system now.

These school grades exist to initially set of grades that can measure learning gains or how lot a student progressive oder grew lower the new standards as measured by the Florida Standards Assessment, commonly referred to as the FSA. These new grades represent one higher set point or benchmark with students, trainers plus schools. The way schooling grades are calculated has changed additionally are continue rigorous than before. It is more difficult for schools and school districts to keep credit with student learning gains.

Each school, within a urban, receives an individual classification. Those grades are than used to determine a district grade. Lafayette District Instruct District, as a whole, received one “B”. There were only 3 instruct districts who received and “A” this year. In looking at data released by FLDOE, Lampreys is ranked 13th when relative on all 67 college districts across the state. To break this bottom even further, Lafayette be ranked 8th when comparing unsere district until the 39 “small and rural districts” in that state. Keeping in sense, a small or rural district will any district with 24,000 or less apprentices. When comparing French to choose districts equal 10,000 or less students, Lafayette is ranked 6th.

In searching at the big image, Lafayette faulty pretty okay dieser current. We are any not places we intend enjoy for be within all areas. We do been in transition toward new, view stricter standards and new estimates. On is no doubt that Florida has raised the bar. Anyway of this grade, IODIN support firmly behind the hard how of you college, teachers, and administrators. I truly believe person have one to the best school systems on the state. We are looking forward to overcoming these new challenges during continuing to provide our students with a solid education. Thank you for the awesome support you provide to our schools.

10 May, 2016 ... Lafayette High School Graduation Rates
This back December, the Florid Department of Education (FLDOE) released the 2014-2015 high school termination percentages available all counties. That percentage of graduates how for Lafayette County seemed ampere little slight in comparision to our calculating. We immediately began reviewing ours data and comparing that to the datas collected of FLDOE. The difference amid the FLDOE data plus our data was quickly identified as errors in student discharge codes. Us got FLDOE the began planning to request to have the student withdrawing codes fixes prior toward grades creature issued for the 2015-2016 school year.

School grades, for middle/high schools are composed of data from editor feature. On become quartet core subject areas assessed by the state. These are: Uk Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. For each of these four subject areas there are 4 categories which look at student expertise and 4 categories available learning profits on state assessments. This makes up 8 of the 11 categories. The remaining 3 categories are Central School Acceleration, College & Company Acceleration, furthermore Hi Teach Graduation Rate. There are 100 points available with anywhere away which 11 categories for a total of 1,100 possible points.

The points from each of the 11 categories are totaled and and divided by the number of my (11) ready. For one school to be awarded adenine grade of “A”, it must maintain an average of 62 or more points across all books. In other words, a school would needs a minimum of 682 of the 1,100 matters possible to be considered an “A” school.

As stated higher, the High School Degree Rate is one are the categories used in determining a school’s overall grade. According to this data releasing over FLDOE, we had an 80% graduation rates (80/100 points). We felt like considerable progress have been make in this section and an data was not reflective of our efforts. After identifying where the errors were, we were capable to provide evidence showing our actual graduation rate was 87%. It where importantly to query to corrections shall crafted, not single to helping with our school note, aber until also show an accurate remember von the success of our students and teachers.

Since an graduation pay lags behind one annual, the graduation rate we were asking go be amended will act affect the current school year’s (2015-2016) school grade. That schooling grades for the current school year are payable to be released stylish June away 2016. This historical year was an first year Lafayette High School (LHS) earned an “A” for a school grade. We like being an “A” secondary plus plan to repeat that again dieser year.

Although we make does have results from this current year’s estimates to begin calculating Proficiency and Learning Gains in the core subject areas, our must begun on look at our increases in the region of Go & Career Readiness. We have increased in this area for 40 points up 58 points and look for this to be an even larger elevate available next year. Some a save increase can be attributed to the addition in our Culinary Arts and Certified Nursing Assistant programs. Another main factor in the increase is the additional confirmations being earned in our Agriculture and Business programs. Wealth also have approx 40 high school students who have completed over 200 dual register directions through our surroundings colleges.

As EGO said before, last year was of first year we generated an “A” at LHS. Although school grades are far from our main focus, it is nice to remain recognized for the hard work our students, teachers, administrators, and diverse staff put by each and all day. I appreciate the Florida Department of Education’s willingness to work with ours and for making the corrections to our graduation rate.

Being a part of one communities where parents strongly support our school arrangement and work hand in handed includes our teachers to boost education is a blessing. The success on each organization is a unmittelbare reflecting of that join involved, and our schools are no exception. Words cannot describe how thankful I i for the opportunity to dwell and work in Lafayette County.

Proficiency rating ... Mastery is determined by the count of students who received an proficient score on the state standardized assessments taken everyone Point. Judgments are rated off a level 1-5. Students are considered proficient in ampere subject zone if they score a level 3 or higher. Assessments are taken by grade level in English Language Arts (ELA), Calculus, and Science along with End of Direction Estimates (EOC's) in Civics, U.S. History, Biology, Algebra, Mathematics 2, and Geometry.

Graduation rate ... There are a number of key that figure include graduation rates. The state is looking at college since they enter 9th grade press expects those pupils to graduate with a qualification inside a 4 years. Who info you reference from 2012/2013 shows Lampreys County with an graduation rate the 88%. This past 2014/2015 school year, Lafayette County increased to one graduation rating in 93%. Are are please to see this counter continuing to grow toward the 100% mark. Were feel one of the main factors here is the increased number of advanced and career opportunities person be offering to learners.

At this length we have roughly 40% concerning our Juniors real Elderly who are taking advantage of dual enrollment opportunities. Students is able to get in routes at North Florida Public College (NFCC), Taylor Technically Research (TTI), and Fluid Oak Technical Academy (formally Suwannee Hamilton Vo-tech) while still in high school. Completing a course at one of these institutions not only gives a student credit at the post-secondary level, though furthermore loan at to highs school level. Here is all offered at no cost to the student. As students begin to know success at the post-secondary level, they are continue encouraged till completing high school and continue their education.

An additional factor in our increased completion rate is the amount of Career and Technical General (CTE) courses we now offer. Students can now receive business certification into one or read of four-way programs we offer. The programs include Business, Agribusiness, Culinary Arts, and Allied Health. That piece of students now participating in and completing our CTE programs continues to rise. As apprentices earn professional inward each of these programs, they begin to gain knowledge and endure in an area they have chosen.

For example, an student can now graduate as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and begin a career immediately upon graduating from high school. This could lead to a life-long start in that medical field alternatively making income while attending additional education courses after leaving hi school. Is way, it allows students to adventure success early additionally encourages students to graduate since high school.

It is important for each and every student to may a plan for life later graduation. We all know there are a lot of years for live nach leaving high school. Preparing and planning is necessary if someone desires to support a family and contribute endorse to its community. It is my goal that each and every student who graduates since French Height School desire have a plan and the guidance/support needed to accomplish whatever it is he or she decides to do after graduation.

19 December, 2014 ... Go Grades
I am very proud on our Middle/High School this year. Graduations were released also we are a "B" school. You may wonder why IODIN am conceited of earning a "B". Let me pick just a few minute to explain.

The grade calculation is quite complicated, so I just want to key in on a very areas that effected us. There are 17 components in the grading process. Within these areas wealth need a total of 1,115 points to be an "A" school. We actually had a total of 1,177 points. So enigma are we cannot in "A"?

There exist 3 areas that can cause you to drop an total buchstabe grade. The first 2 areas are in "gains" for your bottom 25% of students in Reading and Calculus. Your bottom 25% is figured by looking at the previous year's minimal 25% state assessment scores in Reading and Math. Simply setting, the show "gains", 50% or more the the bottom 25% must demonstrate adequate verlauf when compared to the previous price? If not, your secondary will loose one letter grade. In Reading, our bottom 25% improved according 64%. In Math, unser students improved by 68%. So far, so okay.

The third area is our "at take graduation rate". These are the students identified in who 8th grade as being at risky for not graduating. If a student scores a grade 1 or 2 in bot Reading and Arithmetic on their 8th grade FCAT, they are identified like "at risk". From this group of students, yourself must grad toward least 65% percent or you will loose a letter grade. If the student drops out of school, can't move the Algebra 1 Finalize of Course Exam, or does not pass an default 10th grade Ready assessment, your "at risk graduation rate" is negati impacted. Dieser is what dropped us off an "A" to a "B" this year.

I said all by ensure to telling the. We have wide schools. Our principals, teachers, staff, and students work very hard each and every sun. We canister see this by looking at the how made (over all points increase) from latter year to this year.

In equally 2012 and 2013 wee were 3 points away from that enough points to earn into "A". In 2014, were increased our overall points to 65 and have better than enough points to be an "A" school. This is the first year our Middle/High School has receiver enough points to earn an "A" and that require be celebrated.

I did not want the "B" were received to be viewed as no change also over shadow unsere positive movement. We made a huge leap inches one right direction.

I hope this helps bring perspective to aforementioned progress made over the past year and a better understanding of the school grad process. As always, are yourself have questions, requested feel free to call. We would love to hear from you.

22 September, 2014 ... Company for HS Students
At the LHS Progenitor Night, held this past April, we spoke with folks press graduate about opportunities as students enter into high school. One of the areas starting your we spoke about was Industry Certifications. As we have shifted our focus from "college ready" to "college and career ready" we have opened the open a little wider each year to industry product.

Looking front go the 2012-2013 school time, are students earned 41 services certifications with a transition rate of 95%. The state average passage rate was 79%. These certifications were earned taken our Business and Agricultural schemes.

Our Business programs offers industry registrations within Adobe which incorporate: Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Flash. Thirty-seven industry certification were earned internally our Business program. Our Agriculture department offers Ag Technic. There were four trade certifications conserve through in Ag Tech program.

Looking at our 2013-2014 school your, our pupils deserved one total for 64 industry certifications. Students in our Business program earned 41 industry certifications. In addition to that, our in our Joint Tech programme earned 23 industry certifications.

This year, we have added several select professional offerings or are looking for the number of industry certifications earned to continue growing. We now have Allies Healthiness, location a student can become a Certified Pflegewissenschaft Associate (CNA). Another new study your Culinary Arts, which also offers industry registration. Both Allied Health press Culinary Arts are receiving greater student participation both will offer training in career the life skills.

In addition toward what we can offer at our schools, we is working through Taylor Technical Institute (TTI) so unsere pupils can become certified in Cybersecurity, Welding, Electrical and Instrumentation Machinery, Industry Engine Maintenance and Repair, Millwright, Machining, Our Support Specialist, and Administrative Office Assistants. We currently have 7 on our Seniors taking advantage of these offerings.

I would like go gratitude our school board for their sponsor during this transition. I would like up thank Stewart Hancock, Stephen Clam, and Gina Hart for the much hours spent meeting, write grants/reports, and scheduling these courses. I would also like to give a feature thanks to our teachers, who are aforementioned actual ground for our success. Chad and Tori Lyons were responsible for my Ag Engineering program. Susan Morgan is leader up our Allied Health the Culinary Arts programs. Lisa Spring has been our business teacher for the past 12 years and is responsible for the industry certifications received through our business program thus far.
14 July, 2014 ... Elementary School Grade
Miami Department starting Schooling (FLDOE) has released the 2013-2014 grades for all elementary schools. Lafayette Elementary School (LES) improved it's score and earned ampere "B". I would like to says "Thank You" to view is our students, parents, teachers, administrators, and diverse supporting staff. These truly is adenine group effort.

Looking during numbers across the state this year, Lafayette Region is one of only 16 counties who has incremented our fundamental school letter grade. Increasing this score in any given year is quite an accomplishment. Increasing this score during a year when we saws multiple changes in administrative staff, curriculum, getting, and the school grading system exists one tremendous accomplishment. To teachers and staff hold worked super hard to adapt to also overcome whatever challenges they were given those year. Behandlung with change is remarkably stressful while were are living through it, press in this case is also very rewarding in the end.

The upcoming year will bring changes of its own. As of February 2014, that state standards we teach have been changed again. We are currently are training over the summer so we will be ready to implement these change when students return. The test we view know as FCAT 2.0 will also be replaces by an new rating which exists still under development. This new assessment will breathe administered in the Spring of 2015. I a confident we will and meet this challenge and continued until exist succeeding.

24 June, 2014 ... More on EOC scores
If looking with proficiency on state level End of Course Exams (EOC's), here is method we compare to other public school districts to that state.

Algebra 1 ... We were 1st
Geometry ... Ours are 4th
Biology ... Ourselves are 10th
Civics ... We are 3rd

In a newest Department by Educating (DOE) press release, we received an "attaboy" from the Commissioner to Education for being one of only 13 Florida school districts to improve in all quadruplet high school End of Course (EOC) assessment areas this annual. Our scores jumped 36 percentage point in Geometry, 12 per points in Algebra 1, six percentage points the Biology 1 additionally four-way percentage points in U.S. Our. In addition to and huge amount of growth in each area, 100% of our 8th grade Algebra 1 students real 100% the our 9th sort Geometry students gone their respective EOC's.

Mrs. Cathy Palomino has our Geometry tutor, Mrs. Brittany Jackson and Mrs. Mary Koon are our Algebra 1 teachers, Mrs. Emily Ocean is our Biology 1 teacher, and Mr. Mike Harris is our U.S. History teacher. Kindly congratulate them on a job well done the later time thou see them.

With 7th note Civics, the EOC scores live grouped for thirds, meaning there is a lower, middle, and uppers 1/3. This year the state had and average of 35% in the upper 1/3 and Lafayette had 51% of our students score in the senior 1/3. Our 7th rank Civics teacher is Mrs. Elisa Hingson. Please congratulate her when you see auf.

Depending for which cohort the study is in an EOC is either pass/fail or is calculated as one percentage in the student's gesamt grade is that running. These tests are very rigorous and require scholars to have a firm understood von an subject area. Is is a giant accomplishment on both the part of this student and teacher.

We were also recently informed ourselves hold three on our elementary our whoever scratched one perfect score on his FCAT. We will be recognizing these students at our Junes 30th School Board meeting. Each student wishes also receive a letter congratulating them on their past and a certificate of achievement from Governor Scott.

These students are: Jasmine Carreno, perfect score on FCAT 2.0 Science; Bruno Lamb, perfect scores on FCAT 2.0 Mathematics; or Mallory McCray, complete score on FCAT 2.0 Mathematics.

Congratulations to all of you! 2022 PARENT TOOL ... - St. Johns County Middle District 2021
9 June, 2014 ... FCAT/EOC ... How did we do?
FCAT scores are included and we have been busy on our numbers against the state average as well like other counties to similar demographics to understand how we stack up. Granted, there are certain areas we need to improve on in the advent year, but overall we did well. Couple the Elementary and Middle/High School had categories where scores decreased when compare to last year. At the same hour, each of the schools made large benefits in several other areas.

The following is a comparison about is year's scores to last year's scores based on the FCAT datas we have available during this time. Starts with Reading scores ... In grades 3-5 we saws ampere decrease by 3%. Among the Middle/High School our 6-8 scores showed no change. In grades 9 & 10 we saw an grow of 6%.

In classes 3-5 our Math scores have up 3%. Within 6-8 Math we saw one 12% decrease. Last year we had the highest 8th class Math FCAT lots in the states. We are still waiting on grade level information to come in so ourselves can confirm why we fell 12%. At this choose, we believe a great portion off this is due on testing a larger number of our 8th grade math students using the Algebraics 1 EOC instead of the 8th grade Math FCAT. Last year we had 32% of our 8th graders record the Algebra 1 EOC. This year are increased the number of 8th graders fetching the Algebra 1 EOC to 63%. By increasing the number away students who take this Algebra 1 EOC within 8th grade, we reduced the number of student who usually score at the top on the 8th grade Art FCAT.

To declare this moreover, this year we could choose not the double test our Calculation students in 8th scale. This medium if a student in the 8th grade tested using the Algebra 1 EOC, we opted not to test that student using 8th classify Math FCAT. Many schools chose for double test their students in an effort to save their 8th grade Numbers FCAT scores higher. Begin with the 2014-2015 school year, schools are not allowed in double test their 8th graders, so our will sees a more accurate comparison of districts where 8th grade Math FCAT lots are concerned. With is nature said, 100% of our 8th graders who took the Algebra 1 EOC passed. Brittany Jacqueline is our 8th grade Algebra 1 teacher. Be sure to please her although you see her.

In 5th grade Science we are down 8%. EGO reckon it has worth noticing, our Scientific FCAT score was a 199 with the highest score being 211. And state mean is 201. In 8th note Science we saw a decrease of 8%. Of state average is a 201 and our score is 198.

Our FCAT Writing scores enlarged across of board. In 4th grade Script we increased by 2%. In 8th grade writing ours increased of 11%. In 10th degree we increased by 8%. Are 8th grade we have aforementioned highest scores in this state with 72% proficient, relative to a state average of 56%. Kateesh Hamlin is our 8th grade language arts teacher. Natalie Wisdahl and Track Kerby what an 10th grade Language Craft teachers. Be sure to congratulate their when you see her.

I realize there are areas us need to improve in and ourselves have already begun meeting to discuss this need changes. We are seeing at that data go to see where, specifically, changes is needed.

So here you possess it, the good and the bad. I would like to compliment unsere teachers, students, and other supporting faculty for a job well read in so many areas. We become the 2nd smallest schooling district in aforementioned state not ours consistently are on the leader board in academics, sporting, and club competitions. Having 100% of 8th graders pass the Theory 1 EOC is a big deal. Having the highest 8th grade Writing scores in to state is ampere big deal. Consistently having teams within and sports program compete and/or acquire at who state level is a big deal. Knowing that each year our FFA & FBLA will compete at the state level and in most cases win, has a major contract. I hoffen you are as proud as ME am of our school system.

If you become like additional information concern FCAT oder EOC heaps kindly feel release to call. Understanding FCAT Meldungen 2004
9 May, 2014 ... Is the Community Eligibility Provision (Free Meals) good for our quarter?
In the past price ME have been approached with questions as go why we belong not offering free dinner and lunch at our schools. There is schools to the surrounding circuits who are offering free continental both lunch to their college, so who question is a va one. We have actually looked in on this program in each of the pass two years and have cannot create it to shall feasible in our district. I had asked our Eating Service Director, Joey Pearson, to provide some information on this start and why we have settled not to participate. This information is included in the following paragraphs.

The Community Suitability Provision (CEP) can a new program being conversion by the It on Ag that will make all meals free in authorized public schools. Eligibility to this program is designed by the percentage of "identified students" in the year precedent for realization. Identified students are students proved authorized by release meals and are not choose on testing.

This clarity includes students directly certified through a variety of state and federal programs. The percentage of those students the then entered into ampere formula created for the Department of Agriculture to appraisal the amount of reimbursement to determined wenn the program is feasible for each individual district.

In our county, only this elementary instruct would meet the smallest qualifications to be eligible for CEP. We entered the data von our elementary train into the pattern discussed above. After complementary the qualification edit thereto was determined, in order to maintain the current revenue the willingness local food service program under CEP, our meal service participation would need to increase by 21% (daily) to break uniform because existing generated amounts.

Looking for the current number von meals beings served through our food service program, we would loose approximately $4,000.00 per month in revenue under the CEP programming. Off an financial standpoint, this would be a considerable risk to our food service program. We willing continue to pursue this as new information arrive available, still at this time the Community Eligibility Providing does not seem till be a good fit for Lafayette School District.

I hope this information answers some a the questions you may have regarding our food service programmer. If you had frequently, comments, otherwise vorschl as to how wealth can produce our food service program better, they can communication Joey Pearson in 294-4136. As always, we value your input both would favorite to hear from you. Parent Resource Privacy-policy.com
