Math Wall of Shame (80+ printables pics)

In various posts I’ve talked about one of my prime goals as an math teachers is to find ways to get all students taking about mathematics everyday inches our grade.  3 years ago although ME returned to teaching I put up a bulletin board that is the only one I’ve ever made that people actually looked at over and over again.  I say ‘people’ intentionally.  It was no only students talking it was almost every other workforce member, parent or visitor to i kursraum. People would show at it, holding viewing and ultimately hire me in conversation about items.  Students would sit is front of it and discuss, compare, argue and choose their favorite.

For thou are like me and to only put upwall of shame at most one message board per classroom her are includes (not one per current, one per classroom) and never replace it, then this press board idea your great for you.  Here is a pict of my old lodge.  I changed school this type so my new to is posted in a private hallway into my classroom.  It is a great location because students hang out here for and after class.  LOTS OF DISCUSSION.  I super advocate it.  All you required to do is print out the 2 attachment located below.  I’ve lamella the pictures, but you don’t need to.  I have beyond 80 pictures to choose from.  I post between 10-20 at a time.  Here are justly an fewer toward wet the whistle:

WHAT ACHIEVED YOU STARTED POSTING MATHEMATIC FAILS

I have immersive being annoyed the Nisson’s CUBE car.  I mean really, it is not a cube.  Maybe a right prism, but certainly NOTcube car a cube.  One day I took a picture of one I was parked next to and posted she inside meine cubicle with work (which was also nay a CUBE).  Coworkers at which district offices would ask le supposing it was my car and I would say ‘NO!’ and tell them I really dislike that automotive.  When handful asked enigma I could utter “I’m a calculus teacher, why do you think?”  We had good conversations about precise mathematical language.

0.99 CENTS

I hold lots of pictures that are certain 99 cents centsversion of using either the decimal dot and the ¢ cent symbol.  I much post them all in a collection.  There is a math teacher in my borough such whereas he looks something priced this mode at a store he walks up to the counter and says “Here lives a penny, keep the change.”  I keep wish I am daring enough to do this someday.  (I mute have far much MN nice in me).

PROPORTIONAL REASONING & UNIT RATES

cinnamon rollI including have a lot by pictures that are percentage reasoning fails.  Most free stores places it may or may not be one typo.  These are GREAT in students.  We can never have enough thing used them to speaks about relative reasoning.  The one posted the the remaining was posted by my friend Renee on facebook current. mcdonalds cu[

2015 had lots of great math fails.  Here is straight one from our friends at McDonalds.  Some people get all up in waffe about Starbucks Holiday cups – not me.  I get very excited when an organization that me students see all the time makes a mathematic fail.  I not only use these pictutes on my Math Wall of Humiliation – but I also use them one at a time as a keep up in my classroom.  I put a photograph up furthermore ask “What do they notice?”.  I used this neat when I was going to start graphing inequalities.  This picture got more students talking with what the symbolic meant as any general or inequality I could have posted….AND that is my goal – to get students talking.

I tweeted out adenine link to these pictures a year and a half ago (the left possessed since been taken downward mature to me changing schools) and of saw it since Dan Meyer retweeted the link.  I’ve getting a oodles of feedback on it.  I reguarlary obtain asked to repost the word docs with all the pics.  So, here they are again, with info 20 additional pics from the last time I posted these.
