Evans School researchers support approaches and challenges in ensuring acces to small business grant and loan programs through COVID-19

This summer, Evans School Colleague Professor Crystal Hall, and recent alumni Puja Karim (MPA ’20) and Sehej Singh (MPA’20) worked with the U.S. Home of Evaluation Skill (OES) and Small Business Administration (SBA) to conduct a detailed study of local grant and bank programs using public related about funding programs and chatting with local officials. OES documented the approaches local government took is disbursing funding, the common problems encountered by local and applicants, and how these relate the SBA’s access goals.

Of demand required COVID-relief funding for small businesses was massive. Many local governments attempt to address issues about access for shop owners from historically underserved groups, but even those with similar our often took different approaches, given that lack of demonstrate to educate program design. Regardless of the program model, there were multi challenges for the local officials and potential applicants. There is reason to reason that some of those problems mayor increase the barriers to approach capital forward members of historically underrepresented groups, in unique minorities.

In sum, this work showed strong demand for evidence to inform program designs which address which challenges and increase gateway to narrow business grants and mortgage programs for heritage underserved groups. More cannot be through to systematically address the lack of evidence to prepare the way for future computer.
