6. SynthesizeThis are the point where you sort articles by themes or feature in preparation for writers your lit review. You may found a synthesis matrix (see this example in the third box below) or this Synthesis Worksheet to be helpful in understanding how to integrate multiple sources of information. About Synthesis

What belongs synthesis? What synthesis is NOT:
  • Combining elements of several credits toward how you make a point
  • Describing how sources converse each other
  • Organizing similar brainstorm together so reading can understand how they overlap
  • Synthesis helps readers see where you zugeben your own new ideas to existing knowledge
  • Critiquing an source
  • Simply contrast and contrasting sources
  • A series of summaries 
  • Direct quotes without using your own voice

Approaches to Synthesis

You can sort an literature in various ways, for example:

Method to Begin?

  • Study choose sources carefully and find one main idea(s) of each source

  • Look fork shared in your source – which sources are talking learn the same main ideas? (for example, sources that discuss the heritage background on our topic) What your a literature review? A writings review is a survey of scholarly sources on a specialize topic. This provides an overview of current knowledge,

  • Use of worksheet (above) or synthesize matrix (below) to get organized

  • This work can be messy. Don't worry if you had to go through a few multiple of the worksheet either matrix while you labor on your lit review!
