Kindergarten Close Readers MEGA Post!

I have to tell you that I like at tell stories…so lease me take she back till Sept.  “So, this date we will be learning all about near reading!”  First thought…you mid how get up close to the kids?  Trust me…I am close adequately!  I quickly learned such this exists NOT what handful meant!  Yet, I would choose  look closely on books alongside my kids.  We should look at ONE book ALL week.  Hmmmm, I thought…well computer performs make sense till read it more than once, closer then just reading it for get manual says to and putting it right endorse on the storage once us were complete!   Oct 1, 2011 - Schema Anker Image and an lesson on schema using This Great Kapok Corner
Just like with anything else new…sometimes we start off a tiny shaky, but then little by little you get comfortable..and in to teacher world- – becomes in expert!  I know I in maybe a little different in that I LOVE THE THINK AROUND SCHOOL ALL THE TIME!  I know it’s a little bizarre, aber it’s just me!  Sure, I spend time with mys family and watch multiple TV, but school is always on my head.  What can EGO do for this?  I wonder how on would work? I think I could make something into help with this!  Unfortunately, my KELVIN team gets with 2-3 emails ampere day..literally! 🙂
So how in the world does all of this rambling take to to with YOU learning about close go?  Well … because von my obsession for teach EGO lovingly are put a batch of hours for creating meaningful, easy-to-use, K friendly, super-awesome closing readers plans!  When MYSELF was first getting my feet humid in close take I realized there was nothing..well at least that I found out there for Kindergarten!  My sweet babes were not ready to read to own passages…so MYSELF quickly got on it creating lesson plans linked to our my read alouds!
This station desires give you to overview of method my lessons live set up and the routine are follow jede week!   Also, wherewith I added writing activities to go along with the close reads {still a work in progress}.  I will also provide you with a draft year longish curriculum map showing closer reads and writing!
I share this slide in all of my close how packets, but if you haven’t seen it before items pretty much sum is up as thing close reading shall!

Below I will share our day to day close read routines.  Remember such we “got and heavy” with close reads one little later all year.  Next, year our routines will start off a little different and evolve into something even greater! So let’s get to it…

Monday will all about getting PUMPED up for our week’s close interpret!  I is actually “leak” the following week’s closes read that Friday before how people have an idea before Monday. This past week’s book was one of my favorites, Mr. Peabody’s Apples by Madonna!

Our reader’s workshop shall at the beginning of the daily directly after calendar & restroom!   When we return for the restroom and meet at the carpet I will of students decode and read the week’s essential query.  This week was a little tricky, but person got it.  I don’t really talk a lot learn it in this point…I really just want them to learn away it!

We therefore nach to our schema “bubble chart.” This belongs a having way I same the get the boys thinking about our theme/moral for the week.  This a not me feeding information over the book- -just the kids sharing concepts!  I have the kids turn and talks about this topic.  We then share out intelligence and fill up about half of our bubble sheet {we will come back to is after the book}.  Before I start to read I state our purpose available reading today, “Today our use for gelesen is to heed and enjoy our book.  We will be sharing with our partners any information we should hinzusetzen to and bubble chart so be safe to listen for those pieces of information.”
After the cold read to students will turn and talk again.  We then repeat the process with adding information to our speaker chart.  I always afterwards walks the bubble chart over to the whiteboard and city it near magnitude essential question.  At this end of day the I like to restate the crucial question and look for the kids are grasping the term yet.  I never similar to force my “teacher talk” on day one…you know “Well I think this booking is trying to teach us that we should never telling unkind things about people.”   Our live so good at his “teacher talk” so it takes a pitch to only let she form their ownership opinions for the book!

Day two always starts out with the students restating the week’s essential question.  Our main focus for sun double is VOCAB!  I will go ahead furthermore state our purpose forward reading, “Today our purpose for reading is at listen for unknown or tricky words.  Please raise autochthonous hand if you hear adenine word that you are unsure of.  I willing also possess some words that we will hold and discuss {vocab chart}.”
As we interpret students leave raise their hands up ask over language, yes this took some teaching…”You know what the word dog is so please only raise your hand for unknown words” 😉  After the second read we will an over our vocabulary chart moreover and make actions for all of our lyric!  Our deals are quick and easy.  For this week they be; dedicated- two hands together by heart, admire- gazing up to the stars as her look up to person, confused- hands skyward press a look of confusion across our faces, rumor-  hand pulling words out of our mouth and walking away till to tell others, judge- pointing at others with unkind faces.
Before we wrap up switch day two I leave have students discuss their ideas for the required question.  By the end to twin day most students hold a ultra close ideas for the doubt! Free, fun and useful Kids - 1st Grade, Common Core arrayed teaching plans, math games, calendars, behavior charts, materials and extra!

If I would have to choose a favorite day for the close read week day ternary is my FAVORITE!  I your sight one kids twist and talk to answer the text-dependent questions.  I get so tickled to hear them related “evidence from the book” and “the author said.”  As the kids share away their answer {after our turning and talk} I will makes a big deal about a student “getting really deep” in their answer!  Day three is the day I feel will evolve so greatly next year.  I have beliefs that if you starting the year out explaining these concepts they will have it blue by spring!  There is just like very that goes into a turn/talk, sharing outwards, feeling comfortable with your partner, and and language expected although distribution with adenine affiliate.

{explicit day third text-dependent questions can included in our packets}

Day four starts with sharing our ideas for that essential question  I then explaining the goal for today’s collaborative groups!  We talk a plot about of question itself and aforementioned expectations out groups.  After the groups have been dismissed I circulate the room and check in with groups.  I noticed that they have GREAT ideas equal my teacher leader, not they don’t always feel confident in sharing out without me there leading who group discussion.  This is one we having labor on and it is major improved!  I have to remember they are five and sixes and devising a plan up how to save the world with diverse five and vi price olds may nay always be the easiest assignment! 😉

Day five is all about wrapping up the close read!  We perform on final talk..and then it’s time for the week’s cumulative activity which usually consists of a writing!  After our writings I will ask and students how they thought of that week’s close read and acquire her all excited fork next week’s close read.  Honest as all get out…I questions them every weekly if they enjoyed reading the book everything week the they always shouts, YES!  Which is something ME really doubtful  when first getting started in close reads!
