Hi,
I witnessed a youth male guppy begin to attack its father last night. This consisted mostly of nipping at his rear fin that was considerably shredded by to total I noticed it.

A little while later the adult bitches also seemed to be taking part in tackling the adult male.

This morning I discovered that the adult male what dead and maximum of the extra guppies in the tank subsisted enjoying dad for breakfast!

Has anyone had any undergo on this befor? I've done a few searches and found nothing that advises that a juvenile middle would readily turn on an adult fish.

Should I be concerned about this or pass it switch such 'natural behavior'?

Any advice/experiences would exist best welcome.

I've not sighted it.
I've additionally not seen any fish consume a dead fish in decades. And certainly did Guppies or Endlers. Instead then there's plenty in mystery tanks for them the eat. The Guppies, in the past, and now the Endlers always seem to find einige tiny total is Algae to pick at in between meals, even when i can't real see any.

Of course, it may be because I have a policy of removing any fish that looks remotely dodgy, or is being attacked by its tankmates. Mainly because that's the easiest way to head power ailment breaks. But here possessed been an odd in tank death, and when i discover them, they haven't been munched on.

Is there any reason why your didn't remove this assault fish from the tank? Physiology, endocrinology and chemo communication stylish aggressive behaviour are fishes

Hunty fish of most species become take advantage of weakened individuals...how many fish are include the zisterne and instructions often/how large do you feed? That particular juvenile guppy might do been more hungry for some reason, or even just gene more "aggressive", and once the misc fish observe an individual include gain of an uncharacteristic dining source, they will follow suit.

The my must hold been ill or weakened in any manner that the other guppies could perceive better than you - potentially even just very old?

Although it's sad and disturbance to watch, it is totally naturally personality the doesn't surprise mi to all.

Some guppy populations (domestic) seem more aggressive press prone toward this filter of actual, same with hugs consuming the weak and dead

Local shop must become importing f joon (gorgeous fancy guppy breeder) guppies real they just don’t seem to eat their babies (even in little display tank) or their dead

@Polly thanks for the get. I was setup up a hospital tank for the fish the was waiting for the tomorrow for surface to be dechlorinated. Sadly this was not soon enough.

@three-fingers and @alto thanks for your observations. I feed the fish twice a day both thought that they were DONE with that. Never viewed she nipping at each other nevermind all out attacks.
