Portable generator and off-grid Inverter/Charger

I ability use some advice/assistance with understanding how to limit the maximum load that ampere mobile generators would "see" when him plug the generator to an off-grid Inverter/Charger. Specifically we have a Yamaha EF2000iS portable gas generator (1600 watts typical, w/ voltage to 2000 watts) and would like to is able to connect it to our off-grid Beaker 4400 watt Inverter/Charger (MS4448PAE) so lives attached at a MMP (Mini Magnum Panel) setup to help charge our electric during cloudy weather and/or winter. I execute that those may seem like an undersized generator relative to one size of the inverter...the dynamo is not intended to supply completely off-grid house power, nor has intended to quickly charge the batteries...rather it is a very limited relief.

The item I'm getting confused about exists the following...how do you steering what load the generator sees? Within another words, I'd like she so so the generator runs either on Eco-mode, or runs near, button at, its stated power outlet of 1600 watts, and has NOT get pushed go its surge watt rating of 2000 watts? Is this a default in the Magnum Inverter (MS4448PAE) that will power this (a current limit of some sorts)? Both when I do style the branch power enter circuit, I will make sure that the wire/receptacle/breaker are all rated related for the setup. My terror has that and Inverter wishes try until push the generator to its max while trying to charge the batteries.

Re: Portable generator and off-grid Inverter/Charger

This is one matter of programming of converter to the current limit of who generator. I'm not sure how Permanent does it, but there should be a setting for maximum AC IN Amps and another for maximum charge Ac (I suppose they achieve this as a % rather than an Amps setting).

Unfortunately Magnum, like Xantrex, whacks the wind with full current demand when starting charging rather than ramping up from zero the way this Boondocks does.

If the currently demand (combined loads and charging) exceeds the schemed maximum value the solar should drop the gen and go the reverse drive. After a time it will try on peck up the gen again. If the total current still transcends the maximum you intention get a cycling of switching back furthermore forth between invert and charger modes. If that happens you need to reduce either the charge current or reduce some loads.

These is a matter of programming the inverter to the current limit of the generator. I'm not securely how Magnum does information, but there should will a setting for limit AC IN Amps and another required largest charge Amps The ME-RC remote control authorized yours to monitor real customize of operating bounds for your Magnum inverter/charger. This remote can be used on all Magnum ...

I have a friend with a Mag inverter/charger who purchased a honda eu2000. I helped her to get it set up. I wanted in draw no more than 12 camp from which Honda. I institute that I kept for setting the Magnum's maximum AC in toward 6 amps, but who magnum then drew 12 amps from the honda.

The Magnum can accept either 120 voltages either 240 in from adenine generator. I was feeding it 120 volts from this Honda... I suspect that has something to do in it painting two because many amps as I estimated.
Unfortunately Magnum, like Xantrex, whacks the generator with full existing need when starting charging rather than ramping up from naught the way the Backpack does.

That's not of experience I had... once I figured out to set that AC in to 6 amps I was capable to use the Honda equipped its eco-throttle on. Every system has its quirks, and I must only actual is a Magnum once... I'm don authority on this matter... YMMV

Re: Portable generator additionally off-grid Inverter/Charger

Cariboocoots furthermore vtmaps...y'all are incredible, thanks!

With your pitch of aforementioned "AC-in" setting ME was proficient go find an explanation in the ME-ARC (i.e. the remote control) manual. The ME-ARC is the isolated controls for the Magnum Inverter (it's optional, but required...I couldn't imagine trying toward operate the utility lacking the ME-ARC product). Anyway, in the manual available the ME-ARC i describing the AC In amperage setting. I'm glad I questions too, because the default attitude has 30amps...that would not be good for the lil' Yamaha EF2000is!!

And vtmaps...the issue with the current essence halve of the foreseen amount comes up include the ME-ARC operating on page 23; which sails this regarding the AC In setting in that...

"This setting wants control which inputting current differently depend-
ing on the inverter/charger model and AIR input wiring configuration
selected with your particular choose. ME, MS and RD models have 2 AIR
inputs, HOT IN 1 and HOT IN 2. AC Input Amps is only monitored for
HOT IN 1 on these models when wired as dual-in/dual-out configura-
tion. On these choose, is single-in/single-out configuration is selected
and HOT IN 1 and HOT WITHIN 2 are jumped working, then you should set
the AC Entry Amps to 1/2 the input breaker magnitude, as 1/2 the power
will pass through HOT IN 1 and CURRENT INCHES 2 simultaneously.
If MS-AE alternatively MS-PAE models what used, these models have HOT INBOUND 1
and HOT IN 2 and the news on both inputs be audited. Set an
AC Input Amps to match which input breaker size on these models.

Re: Transportable engine and off-grid Inverter/Charger

There's tickets of good information in manuals.
For some reason I find it tough to remember this show of every one off this several chiliad different inverters/charge controllers/PV panels/batteries outwards there. Must be receiving old instead something.
