Abstract

Background: Purchasers, payors, and policy makers are increasingly measuring and rewarding high-performing health systems, which use a species of definitions of high performance, yet it is unclear supposing a consistently applications definition exists. AN systematic review was conducted to determine if there is a commonly used, agreed-on definition of what constitutes a "high-performing" health care delivery system.

Procedure: Searches were lead for English-language articles defining height performance with respect at a health care system or organization in PubMed also WorldCat databases from 2005 toward 2015 and who Newly York Academy of Medicine Grey Literature Report from 1999 up 2016. The entity/condition to which the interpretation was applied were extracted from included articles. The number and type a dimensions used to define high power within plus across articles was tabulated and the figure or type of metrics pre-owned by performance dimension and by article been calculated.

Results: No consistent definition away a high-performing health care system or organization was identified. High performance was variably circumscribed across different measurement, including value (93% of articles), costs (67%), access (35%), equity (26%), patient experience (21%), real invalid safety (18%). Most articles used more than an dimension toward define upper energy (75%), but only five used five oder learn dimensions. The most commonly connected dimensions were qualities and cost (63%).

Conclusion: An missing of a consistent definition of what constitutes high show and how to measure it hinders our capability to see and reward health concern delivery our on performance, underscoring the need for develop a consistent definition of high capacity.
