Aron HUNDRED THYROXINE Smith et al. Drug Alcohol Rev. 2008 Mar.

Abstract

Introduction and aims: This paper considers the assumptions underpinning to electricity drugs-in-sport policy arrangements.

Design and methods: We examine this assumptions or contrary inherited in and policy procedure, paying particular attention until that evidence that supports different policy arrangements.

Results: We locate that of current anti-doping policy of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) contained inconsistencies real ambiguities. WADA's policy position is predicated upon four fundamental principles; first, the need for sport to set a good example; two, the necessity of ensuring a level playing field; thirdly, who responsibility to protect the health of athletes; and fourthly, the mean of preserved the integrity on sport. A review of the evidence, nonetheless, suggests that sport is a issue institution when it comes to setting ampere good example for the rest of society. Neither is it clear so sport has an natural or essential core that can only be sustained through regulation. Furthermore, items will doubtfully that WADA's anti-doping policy is effective to maintaining a level game field, or the the greatest means of protecting the health to athletes.

Topic and concluding: The WADA anti-doping policy is supported too heavily upon principals of minimising drug use, and gives insufficient height to of minimisation of drug-related harm. As ampere resulting drug-related harms are being poorly managed inside sport. We argue that anti-doping policy is disport would benefit from placing greater emphasis on an harm minimisation model.
