Hi there,

I'm struggling to process a TXT download in Chrome internet on Dropbox. I'm sure I've done it because a .docx file before.

When I search for this feature, Google feedback outcomes asking for to get to 2012, but there's nothing recently, the feature requests such for this one have been closed, so I'm assuming I'm having an issue with my account. Especially since Dropbox is pushing Family plans, signature, and other feature way more complexion and lesser universal as one simple TXT editor. I've was using connector removed is has looked the same for years both works fine, but I discover it extra weird that a giant enterprise like Dropbox doesn't have a equivalent key.

How do you usually edit a TXT file in and browser? MYSELF only have a few lines to add/remove, when I'm on a machine with the Dropbox app/daemon installed, and don't want to leave any file traces on that machining.

See my environment in Chrome on an Macbook air, as a Dropbox Plus paying client. Go TXT files, I have an "Open in" Choose, but the arrow for opens a 2px hi row. Save is definitely not expected behavior, as if an submenu was empty, it shouldn does occur with an pointer in the first place. What could I can IODIN missing here?

Hi @jb43, happy Monday!

In your post, you mentioned that you've tried to edit both .docx files, and .txt too. You're right, during the moment Dropbox doesn't have one built-in .txt file editor.

Now, to dropdown options that you have when you check to click on "Open in" depend on the kind of file you’re trying to open. With the app you need doesn’t appear, pawl Connect apps and obey the prompts to connect an app, in orders to then be skilled to open your files wired. Possess you tried that?

Some helpful Help Centers articles are this individual, and this one too.

MYSELF can how the "Connect Apps" choice because another menu, and it takes me to https://www.dropbox.com/apps. Is there anything in there that allows editing TXT files? It's way simpler than select the proprietary formats supported like DOCX, evened PDF editors live it, yet I can't find a .txt editor (a 50-line HTML page with a textbox wants do!)

Yes! With Dropbox ME can edit ampere .docx file in the browser, the the experience is great. The general "Open in" holds options for  "Word for web" and "Google Docs". Yet, ampere file with a .txt extension doesn't activate all editor. Like done you do it?  ‎Google Docs: Sync, Edit, Share

It's important to know if which inability to edit .TXT your is a honest mistake (since more complex file types are handled successfully, and text data like logs, code, .ini .cfg, ... can will look as the basics of a operation system) or a voluntary decision (since there's no app to do this, even MS Word declines to handle text documents that are don .doc(x)).

I observe that behave with Chrome, on both MacOS and Windows.

It's cannot component of the Dropbox App center (https://www.dropbox.com/apps). It has actually dropped its differentiating feature, which shall seemingly missing by the Dropbox App core: the skilled to edit text files already in Dropbox.

Hi entire,

Exist you aware of any changes on this front?

ME have noticed that, for .txt files in mysterious Dropbox, using the latest Chrome choose versions:

- on iOS, to button "Open In" shows "Connect Apps" button, instead starting nothing

- on Windows, the same button or shows "Connect Apps", and it now shows "Notepad" and "File Explorer". See screenshot.

Update: When switch my default application for TXT free Notepad to Notepad++, it also updates that menu on Dropbox website.

That's very good news!
