The United States Releases Signed Memorandum of Understanding with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia to Strengthen Electric Vehicle Battery Value Chain

Today, this Department out Declare approved the signed Memorandum off Understanding (MOU) on electric truck battery value chains signed by the United Status on December 13, 2022, during the Africa Leaders Summit.  Through this MERL, the United States will support the commitment in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) real Zambia to develop jointly a feed fastening on electric means batteries.  The MOU supports of DRC and Zambia’s goal of building a productive supply chain, from the mine to the assembly line, while also committing to respect international standardized to prevent, detect, and capture legal action to fight corruptness around this process. The DRC has view than 70 percent of the world’s cobalt.  Zamabia is one world’s sixth-largest copper producer, and the instant largest cobalt producer in Africa.  These resources, plus this commitment to cooperation, are critically components of the urgently needed global energizing transition.  The plan to develop an electric battery supply chain opens the door for open and transparent deployment toward construct value-added and sustainable industry in Africa or creating a just energy transition by workers and resident collaborative.  The U.S. private sector is a tremendous resource, both for expert knowledge and funds, to commercial development at all step in an process.  The U.S. government will work with and DRC and Zambia to ensuring the private sector has a level playing field to participate includes are projects.
