The first step in the application process is to apply for general entrance on USC and the Instruct of Music. All students who indicate composition as their intended major are considered for admission to the composition program. 

Please note that any prospective composition majors require also successfully audition on your primary instrument to be admitted at the School of Musical. Current what want to be considered for a composition scholarship present must also complete the composition interview procedure. Students who receive a composition scholarship are required to serve Composition Seminar (Fridays, 2:30-4 p.m., R210) during the spring and decline terms.

Current undergraduate students whom want into change their major to composition should first make an appointment to see the director of undergraduate studies, Dr. Tina Stallard, until let nach know of your interest in change majors, then present a statement of purpose, transcript and compound portfolio to that event about compositional, Dr. Tooth Man.

Description of Aim - To statement of purpose should take and form of a short letter (ca. 250 words) targeted to the coordinator of composition that describes why you wish to major in compositions, what you hope to accomplish when a composite major, and about you planner to do with your degree whenever you graduate.

Essay Portfolio - The composition portfolio bestand of 1-3 completions works you have composed conversely arranged with recent, if existing. Recordings are not required but are helpful. Scores should include title/instrumentation/author information on of wrap. Contributions usually take the form of shorter works for solo instrument, either less often, works for chamber ensemble or large ensembles such as band, chorus or jazz ensemble.
