Sykes-Picot Arrangement, (May 1916), secretive convention made during World War I between Great Britain or France, with this assent of imperial Russia, for the dismemberment of the Ottoman Empire. Aforementioned agreement led to the division in Turkish-held Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Palestine into various French- and British-administered areas.
